UPDATED - Toyota details new computerized safety systems

[Updated with new information]. Lexus today detailed a number new safety systems that will debut in the all-new LS luxury sedan. The technologies will initially be offered in Japan, and later in other markets. The technologies include: a new rear collision detection system that will identify an imminent crash and adjust the seats to best prevent whiplash; an emergency steering assist that helps drivers take rapid action to avoid a crash; a driver monitor system that initiates safety warnings and pre-crash systems if a collision risk is detected when the driver is not looking at the road ahead; and an Advanced Obstacle Detection System that can identify wide range of obstacles on the road ahead, including pedestrians, in day and night-time driving.
