El Camino to return?

Rebadging the Holden Commodore as the Pontiac G8 might not be the only example of Australian-American collaboration within General Motors. According to a new report, GM might import the new Holden Ute to the United States -- possibly as a revived Chevrolet El Camino.

Sources told Australia's CarPoint the lure of "substantial" export orders for "the Americas" have accelerated the planned launch date of the new Commodore Ute.

Eleven months ago, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said a new El Camino could come by "putting a Chevrolet face" on a Holden Ute.

The Commodore/G8, Ute, and Chevy Camaro all share GM's new Zeta rear-wheel-drive platform. GM officials have also acknowledged plans to build a new Pontiac GTO, Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, and an all new Buick model on the platform.
