GM abandons monthly sales reporting

GM will only report sales quarterly effective immediately.

General Motors announced Tuesday that it will abandon monthly sales reporting effective immediately, opting instead to report sales only at the end of each fiscal quarter.

The company will announce its March sales this week, marking the final time monthly sales will be reported. Under the new system, GM will report 2018 sales only on July 3, October 2, and January 3, 2019 (year-end).

GM issued the following statement to accompany the announcement:

"Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market," said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president, Sales Operations. "Reporting sales quarterly better aligns with our business, and the quality of information will make it easier to see how the business is performing."

Leftlane News will continue to report U.S. industry sales on a monthly basis.
