Boring Co 'almost done' with first dig under LA [Video]
Elon Musk promises the fully operational system will always give priority to passenger/cyclist pods and cost less than a bus ticket.
The Boring Company is 'almost done' constructing its first demonstration tunnel in Los Angeles, as highlighted in a brief time-lapse video.
"Pending final regulatory approvals, we will be offering free rides to the public in a few months," Elon Musk says. The company started with a proof-of-concept tunnel to avoid the hassle of a full environmental review. The additional red tape must be dealt with before the tunnel is converted to a fully functional service, however.
"As mentioned in prior posts, once fully operational (demo system rides will be free), the system will always give priority to pods for pedestrians & cyclists for less than the cost of a bus ticket," Musk added.
A cool thing about the design is that's easy to incorporate branch loops to serve small to mid size cities without slowing down the main loop at all

The executive says Boring Co is already started on its East Coast route from Washington DC to New York. The startup hopes to start digging a much bigger project on the West Coast next year, connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco via a true Hyperloop system with vacuum tunnels and "faster than jetliner."
