Police say Uber driver was watching Hulu before fatal crash

The driver could face vehicular manslaughter charges for the accident, described as \"entirely avoidable\" following an in-depth investigation.

The safety driver behind the wheel of an autonomous Uber prototype was allegedly watching a streaming video when she struck and killed a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona, earlier this year.

Police discovered that Uber's driver, Rafaela Vasquez, had been watching "The Voice" on Hulu for approximately 42 minutes before the crash, according to a police report obtained by Reuters. The streaming session ended at 9:59 pm, coinciding with the time of the collision.

Authorities initially appeared to blame the pedestrian for walking out in front of a moving vehicle outside of a crosswalk. Vasquez may now face charges of vehicular manslaughter, though it is unclear if county prosecutors have made a final decision.

After reviewing the evidence, police concluded that the accident was "entirely avoidable."
