Can you spot the Sport Quattro-inspired styling cues?

Leaked low-resolution images have revealed the next-generation Audi A1 ahead of schedule. Related to the latest Volkswagen Polo, the A1 will make its public debut in the coming weeks.

Belgian website Autotijd published the images. They show Audi's entry-level model moves in a more dynamic direction while drawing styling cues from bigger models like the A8 and the A6. Its front end pays homage to the original Sport Quattro with three small vents right above the grille.

The overall silhouette evolves but the model remains recognizable as an A1. While the outgoing model is offered with two or four doors, Audi will only make its successor as a four-door, a decision that reflects the sharp drop in two-door sales across the pond.

The interior looks sportier and more high-tech than before. It's available with Audi's driver-configurable digital instrument cluster and a wide screen that runs the infotainment system. Odds are the leaked press shots show high-zoot models; more basic versions will settle for an analog instrument cluster and a small screen.

Powertrain specifications weren't leaked. The 40 TFSI emblem visible on the yellow car's hatch points to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 200 horsepower. The gray one wears a 35 TFSI emblem which indicates a 150-horsepower turbo four.

Other variants (including several diesel-powered models) will also be available at launch. Front-wheel drive will come standard, and all-wheel drive might be offered at an extra cost.

Audi will introduce the next-generation A1 shortly. The hatchback will reach showrooms across Europe and in select global markets by the end of the year. Don't expect to see it in the United States, though.
