Buick drivers can now pay for gas from their dashboard

The service is available at more than 11,000 ExxonMobil stations nationwide.

General Motors has updated its Marketplace in-vehicle commerce platform to include the ability to pay for gas at Exxon or Mobil stations right from your vehicle's dashboard. GM is currently rolling out the technology to select Buick vehicles.

According to GM, the new Marketplace functionality requires fewer steps than similar systems already on the market. To access the ExxonMobil payment service, a driver only needs to press the ExxonMobil app within the vehicle's infotainment screen, enter the pump number and then confirm their payment. The app automatically detects which Exxon of Mobil station you are filling up at, and even syncs with your ExxonMobil Speedpass+ account.

"Our goal with Marketplace is to help make everyday tasks as easy as possible for our customers so they can focus on enjoying time spent in their vehicles,” said Rick Ruskin, Marketplace Line of Business leader, Buick. "Bringing the ExxonMobil pay for fuel functionality right on the touchscreen of our vehicles is the latest advancement of this platform, allowing drivers to easily access Speedpass+ and securely pay for gas while inside their car.”

GM hasn't announced which Buick vehicles the service will be available to, but it will likely be limited to newer models. Although currently limited to the Buick brand, we expect the service to eventually expand to other GM vehicles.
