FCA reaches settlement with estate of actor Anton Yelchin

The \"Star Trek\" actor was killed in a rollaway crash blamed on the Jeep Grand Cherokee shifter.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has reportedly reached a settlement with the estate of late "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin, putting an end to a lawsuit over confusing shifters linked to rollaway accidents.

Yelchin was killed in June 2016 when exiting his Jeep Grand Cherokee, which rolled down his steep driveway and pinned him against a brick pillar.

FCA issued a recall for hundreds of thousands of vehicles equipped with an electronic shifter that has been deemed "not intuitive" with "poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver" when shifting from a motion gear into Park.

Yelchin's parents sued FCA for wrongful death. Their son had been killed after the recall was issued but before FCA had completed rolling out a fix.

Terms of the settlement, which was first reported by Reuters, were not disclosed in court filings.
