Volvo to introduce next-gen S60 this summerby Ronan Glon
The reveal will take place in the brand-new South Carolina factory that will build the S60.
Volvo's model offensive continued yesterday with the reveal of the all-new 2019 V60. The Swedish company isn't taking time to rest on its laurels. It's already looking ahead to the launch of the next-generation S60.
Again stepping outside the auto show circuit, Volvo will introduce the V60's four-door sedan counterpart at a private event held over the summer. It will take place in the brand-new factory the Swedish firm is currently building in South Carolina, Roadshow learned.
It's childishly easy to speculate the S60 will look a lot like the V60 (pictured) up front. We don't know what form the rest of it will take, though. Volvo could choose to take its smallest sedan in a more stylish direction in a bid to draw crossover owners back to sedans.
The interior will carry over; what you see is what you'll get. The engine line-up will be the same, too.
We might see another 60 variant before the end of the year. Volvo confirmed what we all suspected: the new V60 will spawn a rugged-looking, Cross Country-badged model in the not-too-distant future. We don't expect it to make its debut before the S60 arrives, but it could make its debut before the end of the year.
What about the S60 Cross Country? It was a low-volume niche model Volvo introduced in 2015 to give buyers a unique alternative to a crossover or a station wagon. It's too early to tell whether it will return for a second generation. We'll ask Volvo when the V60 makes its debut at the Geneva Auto Show and report back.
