Volvo wants half its sales to be EVs by 2025

The company\'s strategy centers around China\'s ambitions push for more electric vehicles.

Volvo has stepped up its electric vehicle plans, aiming for pure battery-powered EVs to account for 50 percent of its total sales volume by 2025.

The announcement follows an earlier commitment to make all new models available in either mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full EV form by 2019.

The automaker apparently hopes to take advantage of China's push for 20-percent EV sales across the entire automotive industry by 2025, representing a projected total of seven million vehicles.

To highlight its intentions, Volvo's Beijing Auto Show booth is exclusively filled with vehicles plugged into faux charging cables.

With the S90 and S90L T8 Twin Engine already in production and the XC60 T8 Twin Engine due to begin rolling off the assembly line this week, Volvo will soon be producing plug-in hybrids at all three of its China factories.
